Ten easy and cheap foods to store for survival.

These items on this list will be slowly accrued through time, they are easy to pick up a little at a time when you go to the store. Before you know it you will have a good size stock pile that will help you make it through hard times.

1.Caned fruits and veggies

Buying things like cans of corn, green beans, peas, pineapple, or apple sauce is an easy and cheap way to store food. I usually try to buy a little every time I go to the store. When I need a can of corn I just pick up double what I would use for dinner. Slowly you will find that your food storage is growing. You can also dry your own fruits and veggies, but we will get to that later.

2.Pancakes biscuits and muffins mixes

All three of theses items are easy to prepare if you choses the mixes that are just add water. Picking out items that need eggs, oil, butter, or milk will make them impossible to make if you do not have the ingredients.

3.Rice

As you know to make rice all you need is water. Rice is very cheap you can pick up a bag every time you go to the store, or buy a 25 pound bag and store it in a food grade five gallon bucket.

4.Soups and hearty cans

Unlike eating a can of corn, if you eat a can of chicken and veggie soup you will feel more full. So picking up things at the store like corned beef and hash, tuna, or pasta sauces. Also with this you can just pick up an extra can when you go to the store. Your already there, why not?

5.Pasta

Spaghetti noodles are perfect if you by the cans of spaghetti sauce, or Alfredo sauce. This is a easy, very filling, and cheap meal. Also do not forget about your ramen noodles, or macaroni they are so cheap and all you need to add is water.

6.Water

Now water is not always cheap or easy to store, but it is a necessity of life. You can make it about 3 weeks with out food but, with out water you have 3 days. So storing bottled or gallons of water is a start. We will eventually talk about other water sources later.

7.Candy

You might be thinking that I am crazy but everybody loves candy, and there is a time every year you get more candy than you can eat. Halloween candy is FREE! If your child is like mine he wont stop going door to door until he falls over. And then a week later he has had his fill of candy, and so have I. Also after Halloween all of the candy goes on mega sale everywhere, so you can always get extra if you need or want it.

8.Dried beans or lentils

These two are just like rice they are hearty, and really easy to store. Buy a bag every other time you go to the store or buy a 25 pound bag of them.

9. Honey and maple syrup

I would like to start with honey only because it has so many good properties, and never goes bad. Make sure to buy raw local honey, and never buy it in plastic bottles. Really honey should be in your medicine cabinet, but it is also good on those just add water biscuits. Then there is the Maple syrup it also does not go bad, and would be good on those just add water pancakes.

10. Salt and sugar

Salt and sugar are perfect for storage, because they are great way to preserve meat, fruit, pickling veggies, or making jams, and jellies. Salt use to be as valuable as gold and when nobody has it or very little of it, it will be as valuable as gold again.

All of these foods need to be stored in a cool dry place like a basement, or a cellar.

I know what you are thinking just about everything on this list is terrible for you, and you are correct. Look at it this way when you are working physically hard to survive, you will need the carbs and sugar. When everyone out there is starving you will have food and when you need bullets you will be able to trade salt or sugar for it. And when your kids or you are down you can have a piece of candy, and it will restore sprits.
